2018 Standing Rock Buffalo Hunts Are Now Available

2018 Buffalo Hunts will be available for the Upcoming Season

The Standing Rock Game and Fish Department will offer buffalo hunts for the upcoming year.  These hunts will be offered through both the lottery and a live auction.

If selected through the lottery or the live auction, all hunts will run from September 1st through December 31st and will be scheduled with the Buffalo Manager.

The following hunts will be available:

  • 16 Management Bulls will be awarded through a lottery system.  Tribal Members, Tribal Residents, Affliated Tribal Members and Non Member/Non Residents may apply.
    • Entry Fee of $20
    • Up to 5 lottery applications per individual
    • Lottery application dates are from 04/01/2018 to 05/31/2018
    • If selected:
      • License price of $1000 for Tribal Members, Tribal Spouses, Tribal Residents, and Affiliated Tribal Members
      • License price of $2500 for Non Members/Non Residents
  • 2 Trophy Bulls will be sold through a live auction;
    • All Tribal Members, Spouses of Tribal Members, Affiliated Tribal Members, Tribal Residents and Non Tribal Members are eligible to bid.
    • Bidding will begin on 06/01/2018 and close on 06/31/2018.
    • The minimum starting bid will be $2500.

If an applicant is successful in being awarded through the lottery or auction:

  • All hunts are coordinated through the Game and Fish Buffalo Manager and will be scheduled individually from 09/01/2018 to 12/31/2018.
  • The Standing Rock Game and Fish program will transport your Buffalo to Mobridge for processing or will assist you in loading your animal.
  • All mounting and meat processing fees will be the responsibility of the hunter.
